At the University of Technology Sydney I ran IoT air quality sensors through a multi-story campus building for five months, then used Python and Power BI to answer a question people could use: where in this building are occupants breathing the worst air, and why. I deployed and calibrated the sensors, built the pipelines that cleaned and analyzed the data, and ran occupant comfort surveys alongside the readings.
The indoor area closest to the building entrance exceeded double the WHO PM2.5 threshold for more than 80 percent of the study period.
Local outdoor readings ran roughly 2.5 times higher than the nearest regional monitoring station, so regional stations are not a reliable reference for the air people breathe in a specific building.
